Full-Time Brewer & Cellar Operator

Reports Directly to Head Brewer/Production Operations Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Raw materials receiving, storage, and handling
  • Operating brewhouse equipment for safe and efficient wort production
  • Yeast management, harvesting and pitching
  • Monitoring and attending to fermentations 
  • Tank transfers via centrifuge
  • Performing cleaning and sanitizing-in-place on all necessary equipment
  • Sanitary additions to fermenters
  • Thorough completion of brewery records
  • Sensory panel participation
  • Basic utilities operation (boiler, glycol chiller, water, compressed air, electrical)
  • Equipment maintenance and condition-monitoring
  • Assisting as needed with special projects (e.g. barrels and mixed fermentation, hand-bottling etc.)
  • Assist with packaging as needed
  • Displaying a high level of awareness at all times regarding:
    • Quality
    • Sanitation and cleanliness
    • Safety
  • Communicating directly with Head Brewer/Production Operations Manager or other appropriate person:
    • Confirming all daily tasks have been completed
    • Relaying any quality, safety or maintenance issues to be addressed
  • Have a general understanding or willingness to learn the basic principles of:
    • Food-production safety and sanitation, including chemical safety
    • Fluid flow, process gasses, sanitary procedures, preventative maintenance
  • Attendance at festivals, beer tastings, and other promotional or special events, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 2 years experience in production brewing or similar field
  • Ability to safely handle heavy items (hop boxes, malt bags, kegs) alone or with help as needed
  • Ability to safely utilize scissor lift and forklift as needed (training provided, if necessary)
  • Ability/willingness to work in a wet environment
  • Ability to stand, walk and work for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a team setting
  • Ability to work unsupervised as needed
