Ten Years of Duckpin


The beer that started it all for UNION.

Since our first attempt on a turkey-fryer homebrew setup, the recipe for our signature American Pale Ale has remained very close to its original formula. Back then, our goal was to create a hopped-up pale ale that blurred the lines, just a bit, between the maltier East Coast Pale Ales and their hoppier West Coast counterparts. We focused in on lightening the grist with a dose of wheat malt and cranking up the tropical citrus notes with a hefty addition of Galaxy, a then relatively unknown Southern Hemisphere varietal. When the first batch of Duckpin finished fermentation at our original Union Ave. brewery (now Pariah Brewing – Hi, Pariah!) and we pulled our first pints right off the tank, we knew we had something special.

Created in Baltimore for Baltimore, both Duckpin bowling and Duckpin Pale Ale are part of the fabric of our local culture. We’ve said many times over the years that the moment we sent the first shipment of Duckpin cans out into the world was the moment this little dream of ours all became real. 10 years later and Duckpin is still our top-selling beer and we could not be prouder to continue to brew it for our city and state.
