Pours a deep copper with red highlights, capped by light tan foam. Sweet vanilla, caramel, black tea, and raisin on the nose, followed by a light dose of bread crust and slightly savory smoke note. Notable amount of malt sweetness is countered by a red wine-like oak tannin, bringing a hefty level of structure and complexity to a beer of this strength. Traditional low carbonation, medium-full on the palate, leaves with a long and satisfying finish.
Brewed in the tradition of a Franconian Rotbier using the oldest certified German malting barley variety, Isaria 1924. Decoction mashed to bring out extra color and malt character. Fermented in stainless steel and briefly conditioned in a 500L oak puncheon to capture complimentary subtle sweet, toasty, oaky notes.
